1 Plan and prepare for tip truck operations

• 1.1Vehicle transport documentation is accessed, interpreted and applied to ensure work activity is compliant
• 1.2Work requirements are obtained, confirmed and applied
• 1.3Signage requirements are identified, obtained and implemented in accordance with loading/unloading site traffic management plan
• 1.4Appropriate vehicle, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) are selected

2 Conduct tip truck pre-operational checks

• 2.1Pre-start and start-up checks are carried out
• 2.2Tip truck controls and functions, including tray, body, steering, brakes and manoeuvrability, are checked for serviceability and faults are rectified or reported

3 Drive tip truck

• 3.1Engine power is managed to ensure efficiency of truck movements, and to minimise strain on engine, drive line and gears
• 3.2Engine power is coordinated with gear selection to ensure smooth transition and operation within torque range
• 3.3Tip truck is operated in accordance with work instructions and manufacturer instructions
• 3.4Road/traffic conditions, traffic flow, distance, load and appropriate speed are monitored and considered to ensure safety of people, property, equipment, loads and facilities
• 3.5Vehicle is stopped smoothly using engine retarder, gears and brakes

4 Load, transport and tip materials

• 4.1Site operating hazards and risks are identified and managed, and safe operating techniques are applied
• 4.2Tipping specific hazards are identified, including type of load, unstable, uneven tipping surfaces, cross gradients, tipping uphill and cross slopes, overhead power lines, trailer coupling types (type of turntable) and trailer position (straight line)
• 4.3Tip truck is positioned at load and unload points with a minimum of manoeuvre
• 4.4Tip truck movements are carried out in a smooth and controlled manner, including raising and lowering tipper body/tray
• 4.5Mass and distribution of load is assessed, and type of material and vehicle dimensions are considered to ensure it is within vehicle and allowable mass limits for axle group and gross vehicle mass/gross combination mass capacity
• 4.6Vehicle is inspected for lose materials prior to departure, including on top of tarps and draw bars between tyres
• 4.7Safety and security of load is maintained from loading site to unload site, including load cover requirements
• 4.8Load is safely unloaded in accordance with unload site conditions and work exclusion zones
• 4.9Tipper truck body/tray is lowered from within cabin safely with minimum movement and travel required, excess material is cleared, and tipper body/tray is secured and draw bars cleaned (as applicable) before leaving site

5 Shut down and clean up

• 5.1Tip truck is safely parked and shutdown
• 5.2Park and shutdown checks are carried out
• 5.3Visual and physical inspections are conducted, and faults are recorded and reported according to workplace procedures
• 5.4Vehicle records are maintained/updated and submitted
• 5.5Vehicle, tools and equipment are cleaned, checked, maintained and stored
