What an assessment for CPPSSI2012 must cover
21 assessable components: 3 elements (13 performance criteria), 1 performance evidence and 7 knowledge evidence requirements. An audit-defensible tool maps every question and task back to these — that mapping is the coverage matrix Auditori generates alongside the assessment.
Elements & performance criteria
1 Prepare to collect basic spatial data.
- 1.1Clarify task requirements with supervisor.
- 1.2Select tools and equipment to meet task requirements as instructed.
- 1.3Identify requirements for safe use of equipment.
- 1.4Select appropriate safe work methods and personal protective equipment (PPE) for the task.
2 Collect basic spatial data in specified format.
- 2.1Use equipment according to task and safety requirements and manufacturer specifications.
- 2.2Record clear and accurate measurements that can be interpreted by a third party.
- 2.3Use mathematical knowledge to check that data collected is reasonable and measures what is required.
- 2.4Seek assistance from supervisor or appropriate person as required.
- 2.5Communicate with colleagues using a communication device.
3 Finalise spatial data collection tasks.
- 3.1Check and store equipment safely according to organisational requirements and manufacturer specifications.
- 3.2Report unsafe or faulty equipment according to organisational requirements.
- 3.3Use organisational proformas to accurately record measurements and data.
- 3.4Store data and documentation according to organisational requirements.
Performance evidence
- To demonstrate competency a candidate must meet the elements and performance criteria of this unit by collecting basic spatial data, under supervision, for two surveying field projects. For each project, a total station and one item from the following list must be used: clinometer or device to measure vertical angles, compass, data recording equipment, digital or hard copy map, distance measuring tape, distance measuring wheel, level, scientific calculator, simple global positioning system (GPS) device to determine position, simple laser measuring device, communications device.
Knowledge evidence
- types and application of spatial data collection equipment
- industry-accepted standards for recording surveying measurements and data
- organisational procedures and requirements relating to: accessing manufacturer instructions
- organisational procedures and requirements relating to: collecting spatial data
- organisational procedures and requirements relating to: formats for records and documentation
- organisational procedures and requirements relating to: reporting problems
- types and uses of communications equipment.

Questions about assessing CPPSSI2012
What does an assessment tool for CPPSSI2012 need to cover?
To satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence, an assessment for CPPSSI2012 needs to address all 21 unit components: 3 elements with 13 performance criteria, 1 performance evidence requirements, 7 knowledge evidence requirements, and the foundation skills. A coverage matrix mapping each question and task to these components is what an auditor looks for.
How does Auditori generate an assessment tool for CPPSSI2012?
Auditori pulls the current release of CPPSSI2012 from training.gov.au and generates a complete package: candidate assessment, assessor guide with model answers and observation criteria, and a coverage matrix mapping every component. A suitably qualified person then reviews and approves the draft in a built-in workflow — consistent with ASQA's guidance on AI use in VET — before export as branded PDF and editable Word.
Is the first assessment tool really free?
Yes. Every new account includes one free credit — enough to generate the complete assessment tool for CPPSSI2012 — with no card and no subscription required. After that it's pay-as-you-go per unit.
Can I check my existing CPPSSI2012 assessment instead of generating a new one?
Yes — upload your existing assessment or learner guide and Auditori maps it against every element, performance criterion, PE and KE of CPPSSI2012, showing exactly what's covered and what's missing. Mapping costs a quarter of a credit.
