Performance evidence

• interpret both visual and text-based workplace instructions for two different precast concrete products and extract accurate information about requirements for each of the following: o moulds o reinforcement o concrete placement o finishing o curing o product and process compliance requirements, including traceability
• use instructions to monitor the quality of two different precast concrete products

Knowledge evidence

• types and applications of precast elements, including structural and non-structural
• overview differences between load bearing and non-load bearing elements and the basic implications for: o amount of detail in shop drawings o types of concrete required and implications for placement, curing and finishing o reinforcement requirements, including differences between flexural and shear reinforcement
• elements of the compliance and quality framework that governs precast concrete manufacture in Australia, and the role of each, including: o Australian Standards o safety regulations and specific safety considerations associated with handling and lifting of concrete, moulds and reinforcement o licensing requirements for workers undertaking high-risk work o code(s) of practice o precast and sustainability, including benefits o internal workplace standards
• purpose and key provisions of the following Australian Standards at an overview level, and how each standard impacts different areas of work in precast concrete manufacture: o AS 3850 Prefabricated Concrete Elements (Parts 1, 2 and 3) o AS 3610 Formwork o AS 3600 Concrete structures o AS1012 Methods of testing concrete o AS 4671 Reinforcing
• how to source authoritative information about compliance and quality requirements when specific information may not be known
• roles and responsibilities of different workers involved in the precast concrete manufacturing process
• types of work instructions in precast concrete manufacture, including: o types of information included o format of information – structural drawings, shop drawings o how to interpret shop drawings, including terminology, abbreviations and labelling conventions
• general knowledge of concrete sufficient to interpret work instructions and monitor quality during all stages of the manufacturing process, including: o composition of concrete, including importance of water content o different type of concrete mixes and their application o different methods of casting concrete o how concrete reacts at each stage of the precast manufacturing process and what this means for quality o types of concrete quality checks, including how and when they are conducted – visual, physical and sampling
